Trail clean-up and maintenance should be a priority anytime we are on the trails or have the opportunity to volunteer, but unfortunately, that isn’t always the case.

With increasing trail activity from all forms of recreation, we are seeing larger amounts of litter, additional trail wear and tear, and the creation of unapproved social trails. Though we are happy to see more people enjoying the outdoors, we want to remind everyone of their duty to protect and take care of these playgrounds.

In celebration of Earth Month, Trail Sisters and Altra Running are excited to launch our new conservation and cleanup project, 2,021 Hours for the Planet. The goal of this project is to hit (hopefully surpass) 2,021 hours of collective trail clean-up and maintenance work from the community. We have also created a resource list of trail organizations with volunteer opportunities, along with the ability for you to add your local organization/s.

“We have a deep love for the trail, so we are equally excited to do our part to ensure it is clean and maintained for us all to use. Trail Sisters is an amazing group of women who feel the same as we do at Altra, and to be a part of the 2,021 Hours for the Planet completely aligns with our values of protecting and preserving the trails.” – Shanna Burnette, Altra Running

Participating is super easy. Identify if you want to volunteer with your local organization, Trail Sisters Local Group, or doing your own solo plogging adventure to pick up litter. Once you know what you want to do, hop to it! After your awesome and helpful effort, submit info (and a photo!) on our project page. Trail Sisters and Altra will celebrate your activity by sharing it with the community.

Oh, and of course, no good deed goes unnoticed or unrewarded! As a thank you for your participation and for giving planet Earth some TLC, Trail Sisters and Altra will provide you with a special discount code after placing your submission. You will also be automatically entered to win a pair of Altra Timps and some sweet Trail Sisters gear. We will hold five giveaways throughout the month of April.

Ok, enough about the project! Hopefully you are feeling excited and inspired to help clean up trails in your area. Submissions start on April 1st, but feel free to add local trail organizations to the resource list in the meantime.

Help us in providing 2,021 hours of volunteer goodness for the planet!
